convUDMF

When I started making maps sometime earlier this year, they were in the vanilla Doom format. Only recently I discovered the possibilities that new formats such as UDMF offer. So I decided to convert my existing maps to this format.

It wasn't as easy as I thought. I tried several conversion tools, but some of them didn't convert the action specials (switches, traps etc) correctly, while others didn't work at all. Took me a while to figure out how to do it, and the process involved several steps with the command-line programs zwadconv, wad2udmf and zdbsp.

To make the conversion process easier, I created a little tool which combines all these tools into one, similar to a front-end program. You just select a WAD file, let it convert, type a new name and that's it.
It converts any vanilla Doom/Doom2 or Boom-compatible map to UDMF.

Chaingun Demon

My first ZDoom Monster is a mix of the Pinky Demon and the Chaingun Guy. A rather sloppy sprite edit, I basically just copied and pasted some pixels. But I'm still proud of this monster, as it has some unique features which took me quite a while to code (I never wrote any DECORATE code before).

(to keep it simple, I'll just copy&paste my post from the Realm667 forums, and I'll do this for all other released monsters and items)

Description:
A cybernetic Demon with a chaingun in his mouth. He is based on the Blood Demon and has the same total amount of health. He shoots a salvo then runs a few steps before shooting again. After loosing 2/3 of his health, he drops the chaingun. When he is finally free of the machine that his hellish superiors implanted in his mouth, he rushes towards his victims to feast on them. When he is close enough, he will attempt another leap at the abhorred target and goes into a biting frenzy. His melee damage is a bit higher than normal, chaingun damage is default.

This is my first monster for ZDoom and I'm quite happy with him. Criticism is still much appreciated :-)

First map project

My first DooM project after over 12 years is going to be a mini-episode with 6 maps. Simple story: All water on Earth is contaminated and very unhealthy. Fight the demons, find the source of the contamination and beat the boss. I don't have a good name for the project yet. The working title is 'Acid Wars'.

As of today, 3 maps are almost done, one more is currently in work, the rest only exist on paper. Here are a few screenshots:

Welcome!

Welcome to DeVloek's DooM mods blog. This was formerly a blog for a few music uploads, but I decided to dedicate the (almost empty) blog to all the Doom monsters and items I made during the last months, and of course to current WIP projects. In the last few years, my favorite Doom port was GZDoom, so all my projects will require this port to run correctly.

The stuff you are gonna see here is not my first work for Doom. Back in the late 90s I started making Doom mods and maps with a few friends. We made a lot of single-player and death-match maps, as well as a few new weapons and monsters (nothing spectacular though). We were working on a 32-maps MegaWad for Doom 2 and were half-way finished, but then school and university got in the way and eventually we stopped working on our stuff. Unfortunately, all our work was lost during the years... Anyway, now I'm back in business! Thanks to fellow Doom fanatic Herculine, I decided to download all the tools necessary to make maps, monsters, items etc. and I already finished a lot of stuff, which will be presented here. Everything I do can be downloaded directly from my dropbox folder. Enjoy!

PS:
The place where I usually post my work is Realm667. As of today, only the forum is functional, the main site with the Repository doesn't seem to work yet (in case you missed it, R667 was down after a hacker attack, now the site is in the process of being rebuilt from scratch).
